Game of the Week: No.
10 Texas Tech 30, No. 14 Oklahoma 38
This
was a quintessential college football game. A chill, overcast day, two top 15
programs, who are also rivals, going at it, in a see-saw battle to the end. Typically
this is the game Oklahoma has lost over the past fourteen seasons, but in the
bright lights, Oklahoma shined in a statement win in the Big 12.
But
this game truly had everything. There was talk about benching Blake Bell in the
first half, because of his pathetic throwing numbers throughout the season and
through the first half of the game. But then out of no where, Blake Bell did
his best Warren Moon impression as he let the pigskin fly all over the field
ending his day going 14-22 for 249 yards and 2 TDs.
Texas
Tech has been this year’s ‘sexy team’ and that is not just because coach Kliff
Kingsbury is College Football’s version of Ryan Gosling, but because this
offense scores points at will in fast fashion. But Davis Webb’s 385 yards, and
Jace Amaro’s 119 catching was not enough to win this big road game. It’s a log
jam in the Big 12 standings as only Baylor and Texas remain unbeaten in
conference and Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Oklahoma State all have one loss. Stay
tuned this looks like it will be the most compelling race in all college
football.
Player of the Week:
Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor (20-32, 430 yards, 3 TDs)
They
cannot be stopped. Another game, and another 59 points for the Baylor Bears who
keep putting up numbers at alarming rates. Nobody has been putting up better
numbers than quarterback Bryce Petty. Now granted, it was against Kansas, who
continues to be a doormat in the Big 12, and Charlie Weis who continues to
struggle to get through doorways, Baylor is 7-0 and no opponent they have faced
has been able to muster any amount of success against this offense. Baylor has
to be a nightmare to prepare for because of this, and when the better schools
in the Big 12 come calling, they will have a tall order against the Bears and
Petty.
Disappointment of the
Week: Missouri
Up
14-0, at home, as the number 5 team in the country, and you can’t close the
deal? Missouri’s fairy tail ride looks like it has come to a crashing end. Most
people would agree Missouri was playing over their heads, but this was not the
way the Tigers wanted it to end.
Game to Watch: No. 7
Miami @ No. 2 Florida State (8pm, ABC)
This
ACC matchup has huge implications for the National Championship race, when the
Hurricanes play the Noles. Whereas everyone expects Florida State to win, and
“Famous Jameis” to continue to ascend up the rankings, this should be Florida
State’s last big test, and a win here might begin to allow the voters to pencil
in Florida State in the national championship. But what if Miami is able to
pull off the upset? Could we be witnessing the revival of the Hurricanes?

15) Buffalo (SAY WHAT!) Look closely at the Bills schedule,
look at who they have beaten, and look who remains. The next two weeks are
tough, home against New Orleans and Kansas City, but if Buffalo is able to win
just one of them, they will be able to have a realistic shot at winning a wild
card spot.
