Game of the Week: LSU
@ Georgia
An
action-packed seesaw battle with two great college quarterbacks on display,
both improving their resumes for next April, took place in Athens, Georgia last
night. While Bridgewater, Mariota, Boyd and Hundley impress more in the eye
test, both Zach Mettenberger and Aaron Murray proved they can carry their
offenses and in the most critical of times as both led their teams to late 4th
quarter touchdown drives on Saturday.
Both qbs threw above 58% and averaged more than eight yards an attempt,
throwing seven combined touchdowns and only 1 interception. This game will go a long way in
determining the representatives of both the SEC East and West, but with this
win, Georgia’s national championship dreams are still very much alive.
Player of the Week:
Bishop Sankey, RB, Washington (40
carries, 161 yards, 1 TD)
While
the debate of whether or not teams in football today need a true running back,
ensues, enter Bishop Sankey stage right. This west coast sensation has quietly
been putting together one of the finest college campaigns this seasons and is
an emerging Heisman contender. Through his first four games, Sankey is
averaging 152 yards on the ground and 5.83 yards a carry and he has been doing
so through a tough out of conference schedule (Boise State, @Illinois, Idaho
State, and Arizona). Sankey, a junior, and the 4-0 Huskies could be serious
contenders in the PAC 12.
Disappointment of the
Week: Ole Miss
Oklahoma
State could have also gotten the nod this week, but I really expected a lot
more out of Ole Miss and especially the offense. It was only a matter of time that Saben was going to correct
the problems on defense, but Ole Miss, who averaged 38 points a game going into
Tuscaloosa, could only muster 205 yards of total offense. While nobody truly
believed Ole Miss could go into Alabama and pull off and upset, Ole Miss should
have been able to create some sort of noise against the Tide.
Game to Watch: No. 4
Ohio State @ No. 16 Northwestern
This
was one of my “Game of the Year” picks, and the must see game of October as
Ohio State travels to Northwestern. Both have had to deal with serious injuries
to important members of each respective squad. Northwestern however, had the luxury
of resting up, as they had their “bye” this week and prepare for Ohio State.
But Ohio State got Braxton Miller back who put the critics to sleep last night
with his 270 total yards and 4 TDs to lead the Buckeyes over the Badgers last
night. Both teams are hitting their stride and they will collide this Saturday.
