Fantasy Football League Playoff Predictions

Playoff Predictions

After a very competitive hard fought end of the season, the 2014 Tri-State vs. the World Fantasy Football league regular season has concluded with some shocking story lines. Mid-way through the season, the World division had only two teams with records above .500 whereas the Tri-State division had 5 teams above .500. With discussions taking place over re-alignment, the World division came roaring back.
With the likes of the Cock Suckers, Dainty Giants and F FF the World division was redefined this season. Owner Ian Hobbs’s club was probably the most unfortunate of teams throughout the season, starting 0-5 but was in the top 5 in scoring After a few moves, Hobbs’s team really started to soar but he was unable to overcome the rough start. Dainty Giants owner Tim Galvin was very public (atleast to me) about his “no in-season trades philosophy” but it seemed to work as he had a chance to make the playoffs this season only to lose out on points. And after a horrid beginning to the season Matt Goebel’s F FF team seemed to be looking forward to next season until after a couple of moves propelled him into the playoffs. Now you can make the argument that Matt’s team has all the momentum going into this playoffs, and sometimes that’s all you need. In Pat Barnes’s first season he made some noise at the end by sweeping the Clough Brothers which was just as shocking as Mark Ingram getting 20 carries in back to back weeks without breaking something, talk about irony. And Team Williams…was horrible.
Scott Clough’s “When the Saints Go Marchin In” squad took a nose-dive which mirrored the actual Saints this season. After being in the Top 3 in the Tri-State division, Scott seemed poised to return to the playoffs and recapture previous years of fantasy football glory. However Cam Newton never returned to Superman mode, Pierre Thomas was all but forgotten in New Orleans and the Bears like to throw 500 times a game and not hand the ball of to Matt Forte. An ill-advised trade of Kelvin Benjamin messed up his future plans (how can you lose out in a trade with Luke?) but he has promised to come back stronger than ever. The White’s made their debut this season and they too had a strong start. But we knew it was a problem when they were getting giddy on draft day over their selections of Dwayne Bowe and Greg Jennings. Kyle Henderson shocked the world with his trade of Demaryius Thomas, but he did manage to get back two of the youngest, highest potential receivers in football with Alshon Jeffery and Mike Evans (I’ll defend that trade until the end of time! And I really miss Mike Evans). The Fighting Frenchies will once again take the strong keepers into next season. Chris is excellent at picking three guys, but the other 15 is sometimes where he struggles (I still want Julio Jones, Chris).
Now before we get into the teams that actually matter, the one’s in the playoffs here are my predictions of the 3 keepers each guy will go with going into next season (barring any post-season trades).

Playoff Predictions- Final Four
Beacon Bridge Souls vs. The Mighty Balvons

After I hopefully dismiss of Mike Cerar’s “the Lucky Bunch” I will have a rematch with Mike Mastroianni in the Semi-Final. After last year’s classic championship matchup, Mastro will be out for revenge. If Calvin Johnson can recapture some of his glory the Bridge Souls may be in good shape. But while 2-3 weeks ago that may have been likely, with each passing week it looks less likely. I just hope he continues to play Mark Sanchez.

Winner: The Mighty Balvons

F FF vs. The Carlos Dangers

Two teams who can score big points every week will be matched up in this Semi-Final. Mike’s Carlos Dangers has the best running back tandem in the league with Jamaal Charles and Marshawn Lynch which is an almost guaranteed lock for 30-40 points each week whereas Matt’s receiving corps with Thomas, Rob Gronkowski and John Brown. This will be a high scoring affair no doubt but just like in real football is going to come down to the play of the quarterback, and I’ll take Andrew Luck over Russell Wilson.

Winner: The Carlos Dangers

Title Matchup: The Mighty Balvons vs. The Carlos Dangers

The two best teams this year should make it to the championship and with Mike and Mike going at, it should be a good one. Both teams have a lot of balance, and some high scoring potential up and down the lineup. But I think the addition of Jamaal Charles has just made the Carlos Dangers too good for anyone to compete with. Another championship appearance for the Mighty Balvons and another loss. Just can’t win the big one.

Winner: The Carlos Dangers
