Game of the Week: Minnesota
26, Nebraska 24
Up 24-14 against another Big 10 West
foe, Nebraska squandered another lead against the Golden Gophers of Minnesota,
and lost for the second straight week. The Nebraska hot-start has flamed out
once again as this former Big-12 potential contender that Nebraska was promised
to be, has yet to live up to expectations. Bo Pellini seems to be on the hot
seat year in and year out. Despite the fact that Nebraska has remained a
contender in the Big 10 throughout a majority of the season, these two losses
to Big 10 West leaders has clearly shown that Nebraska was never a true
contender. In order for the Big 10 to regain its prominence, yes its Michigan
that needs to come back to the top, but Nebraska also needs to live up to its
past reputation.
Player of the Week: Brett
Hundley, QB, UCLA (22-31, 326
yards, 3 touchdowns, 1 rushing touchdown)
Brett
Hundley and UCLA announced they are back in a big way last night against USC.
Hundley had one of his best games as Bruin throwing for over 300 yards and 3
touchdowns against a tough USC defense, in the primetime at the Rose Bowl.
These types of performances will put Hundley back in the conversation of one of
the best quarterback prospects in the draft. If he can continue this play
against Stanford and Oregon in the Pac-12 title game, look for Hundley to
re-emerge as a first round pick.
Disappointment of the
Week: The Ole Miss Collapse
Well
it was fun while it lasted. But Ole Miss has not recovered since they lost La’Quan
Treadwell and Auburn earlier in the season. That game, as previously stated
here, acted as the turning point in the Rebels season as they have come
tumbling down and possibly reached its lowest point by losing to Arkansas last
night 30-0. The Razorbacks may be the SEC’s most improved team, especially
since they have not allowed a score in the past two games, but considering the
status Ole Miss had after their win against Alabama, they have fallen more than
any other team in the country. Well, perhaps it could be worse? They could be
Notre Dame.
Game to Watch:
Thursday: No. 5 TCU
vs. Texas
With rivalry week approaching there are
a plethora of games to watch starting on Thanksgiving night with TCU and Texas.
This game should prove to be the Horned Frogs toughest matchup with all of the
country fixated on this game of two Texas colossals. The Longhorns defense is
one of the best in the country and the offense has seems to have caught up with
the defense averaging over 28 points a game in its past three contests. And
since freshman quarterback Tyrone Swoopes has learned from coach Charlie Strong
to stay in the pocket, in the past four games Swoopes has thrown 4 touchdowns
to only 1 interception. This ball controlled offense could prove to be devastating
to the Horned Frogs if TCU cannot get it going early. This should be a showdown
until the end.
Friday: No. 13
Arizona State vs. No. 15 Arizona
While
the talk in the College Football world has been centered around the SEC and the
rise of Mississippi football with the Rebels and Bulldogs routinely in playoff
discussion, on Friday we should show some love for Arizona as both schools are
fighting for an outside shot at the PAC-12 South championship. Arizona may not
have been the talk of the college world, but if you factor in the success the
Arizona Cardinals are having, Arizona has been the hotspot for football this
year.
Saturday: No. 14
Auburn vs. No. 1 Alabama
Everyone
in the state of Alabama has been looking forward to this game since last year’s
classic matchup. Everyone outside the state of Alabama will watch to see if the
magic can happen again.
Coach on the Hot
Seat: Bo Pellini, Nebraska
It
got a lot worse for Bo Pellini yesterday.
Coach Predictor *New*
Florida: Mark Hudspeth, HC, Louisiana-Lafayette
With
Wil Muschamp announcing he will be stepping down at the end of next season,
Florida will be shopping for another Head Coach this holiday season. Florida is
adamant that they want an offensive minded coach, especially since the Gators
are only averaging 207 yards per game. While the rumors will swirl that Dan
Mullin, a former coach under Urban Meyer at Florida will be the favorite for
the job, look for a former Dan Mullin assistant, Mark Hudspeth to get the job
in Gainesville. Hudspeth led Louisiana-Lafayette to their first bowl win in
history a season ago and looks to take the Rajin Cajuns to their third bowl in
a row this season. With deep ties
to the South, look for the Gators to finally bring this 31-year old gem of a
coach, to the swamp.
Playoff Prediction:
1. Florida State
|
2. Oregon
|
3. Alabama
|
4. Ohio State
|
1. Florida State: Does
Florida State want to lose?
2. Oregon: The
Civil War matchup against Oregon State should prove to be a good tune-up game
for the Pac-12 Championship game. If
UCLA can take care of Stanford, they have a lot of momentum heading to their
rematch with Oregon. Something they did not have the last time they played.
3. Alabama: If
everyone thought that back to back weeks against LSU-Mississippi State was
rough, Auburn and a SEC title matchup against Georgia will prove to be
daunting. The best team in the country still has a long way to go.
4. Ohio State: Indiana
hung around but then Ohio State blew the doors off in the 4th
quarter. Rival Michigan will also hang around...until the coin toss
probably…then it will be over.
Don’t Count Them Out
Yet: TCU & Mississippi State
Ole
Miss’s season officially came to an end yesterday with their blowout loss to
Arkansas, so even if Mississippi State wins, it is not going to be as an
impressive of a win as we all initially thought.
TCU
has a very tough matchup against the Longhorns on Friday night. A win certainly
keeps them in the conversation.
