Game of the Week:
Wisconsin vs. Arizona State
This
late night game had everything and then some. High scoring, big plays, big
hits, and what really makes a great game is special teams chaos. We have all
been there, your team fails on third down, you need to go to the bathroom,
or maybe make a sandwich before the next teams takes possession, so you try to
get a head start on the punt. 95% of the time your fine, the punt is kicked,
fair catch, or the ball just rolls out of bounds or in the back of the end
zone, and you strategically bought yourself a few precise seconds to relieve
or refuel yourself. But in this game you could not do it. A botched punt and a
fake punt made it impossible to turn your head away from this game. To end it
all with a little controversy, stupidity and confusion solidified it as the
Game of the Week. But if you were like 99.5% of the East Coast and you were
fast asleep when it ended, go back and watch the last two plays of this game
and it will leave you speechless.
Player of the Week:
Mike Evans, WR, Texas A&M (7 catches, 249 yards, 1 TD)
While
the highlight was once again focused on Johnny Manziel who had close to 600
yards of total offense, Mike Evans was the true star of the game. Mike Evans
had 7 catches for 279 yards. 279 yards! Evans made the Alabama secondary look
foolish time and time again and he was not only Johnny Football’s safety valve
but playmaker. This was something that Texas A&M did not have a season ago,
and while the Aggies lost a tough one at home, this may not be the end of their
season. If Texas A&M can beat LSU later on in October, the SEC West will
once again be an intriguing race.
Disappointment of the
Week: Texas
Ole
Miss scored 27 unanswered points in the second half yesterday and after the
embarrassing loss in Provo, last week, against BYU, its time for some changes
in Texas. Since their last National Title appearance in 2010, the program has
regressed in every aspect of the game. Much like USC, they lack any kind of
true identity, and their herald recruits they claim they get every year either
are busts, or the program cannot develop them. Either way, Texas needs to move
on from Mack Brown and start a new in 2014.
Game to Watch in Week
4: Michigan State vs. Notre Dame, 3:30, NBC
It
is a weak slate of games for College Football in Week 4, and if Notre Dame and
Purdue was declared the game of the week by ABC this week, we might as well say
Notre Dame is the focus again this week. This is a intriguing matchup because
of the recent history both teams have had. Fake punts, epic comebacks, OT
thrillers, and with neither team this year looking fairly impressive this could
be another battle to the end. Michigan State can’t score, and Notre Dame is
having a hard time stopping anyone. It’s the “resistible force meets the
movable object” game.
